Guest Post: Starting a New Year with a clean binder!

Jan 2 by Paul Ivanovsky 6 Comments

This is a guest post from Tiffany at One Deal at a Time!

Does your coupon binder look like mine right now? I hope not, but at some point they do need some TLC! My kids went back to school today so that will give me a little time to get it taken care of! I know some of you have kids home until Wednesday or even later, so you might have to wait until then, OR get them to help you!

** FIRST – I want to tell you something you already know… when you have a clean, organized binder or storage method and coupons cut out, life is soooo much better! When you need to go to the store and have no coupons to take with you ready, it is frustrating as you know that you are just wasting money. Start off the New Year by giving yourself the gift of saving money by being able to find those coupons!

Sadly, we have not gotten a lot of coupons in the past few weeks. This will make it easier to get everything sorted out though.

If you have inserts just piled around start by getting them all together by insert.  OR this also applies if you get really behind in cutting them out.

Always start by cutting the most recent inserts out first. These can be the most import ones to get cut out for a few reasons.

  • Have the furthest expiration date
  • You are not yet sick of cutting and will cut out more
  • None are expired
  • Coupon matchups are currently out for them
Once I have the current weeks cut out I start working my way back. I find that I cut out less and less as I go.

I store my coupons 2 different ways. Each week I cut out 3 of my inserts (every coupon) and I organize them in my binder. You can see how I organize my binder HERE and how to make one. The other 6 or so inserts I store in a file box as whole inserts.

I label in big huge numbers the date that the insert came out. You can find the date by looking on the spine of the insert like in the picture above. Then I store them in the file box until I need a coupon and cut them out as I need them.

I started doing it this was because my binder was getting too big when I cut out about 10 inserts a week. Plus it was taking me too long and I was putting off doing it. If I can have at least 3 of each coupon with me in my binder I am really happy with that. If it is a HUGE sale and I have planned ahead I can cut out the additional coupons I will need and add them to my binder OR I might have to actually try and come back to take advantage of a deal if I don’t have enough coupons on me.

If you get too far behind get some help, or just start over! No worries just jump on in where ever you can! Last night I paid this little girl $5 to pull all the inserts out of the papers and sort them for me. It took her 2 hours, it would have taken me an hour, but sooooo worth $5!

Homemade Chicken Pot Pie Recipe – $11.57 at Walmart for ingredients!

Oct 10 by Paul Ivanovsky 5 Comments

This is a guest post from my wife over at MyLitter. Thanks honey, sounds good to me! She just remodeled her site last night so take a quick look!

What are you having for dinner tonight? It is a little cooler here and so I want to stick something in the oven and have the house smell good! Since there are some good coupons out I am going to make Homemade Chicken Pot Pie! I used zip 77477.

The total cost at my Walmart for the ingredients was $11.57. That is under $2 a serving as this serves 6 for a pie. You can double it and put it into a 9×13 pan.

There are a few coupons that you will need:

Easy Homemade Chicken Pot Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 (9 inch) pie crusts $2.49 ( after $.50/2 coupon)
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup $.60 ( after $.40/3 coupon)
  • 1 (8 ounce) tub or package cream cheese $1.48 (after $1/1 coupon)
  • 1/2 (16 ounce) package frozen mixed vegetables, thawed $2.00
  • 3 cups cooked, diced chicken meat $5 ( I use a rotisserie chicken and pull the meat off)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl combine soup and softened cream cheese. Mix until thoroughly blended. Stir in vegetables and chicken.
  3. Pour chicken mixture into pastry-lined pie pan. Cover with top crust. Seal and cut steam vents in top. Cover edges of crust with aluminum foil to prevent overbrowning.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Remove foil halfway through baking to allow edges of crust to brown. Check often late in cooking time to ensure crust is not burning.

** We also make this in a 9×13 casserole dish. Another variation is to add biscuits to the top instead of a pie crust.

Double Coupon Shopper Interview by Nathan from WUC.

Sep 8 by Paul Ivanovsky 24 Comments

My friend Nathan from We Use Coupons had this interview I thought IHeartTheMarters would be interested in. I appreciate the shout out from him!

As many of you know Walmart is currently doubling in very select regions of the country. Some Utah Walmarts are doubling on Tuesday and other Walmarts in the West Virginia area are doubling every day. We believe that Walmart is testing the waters to bring this program national or at least phase it in regionally. That is very exciting. Other great sites such as I Heart The Mart have been true leaders on the Walmart doubling issue and we are excited to bring you this interview from a WeUseCoupons member, Tiann (user name: blueezes). We hope it helps you understand how the double coupons work and even makes you a little jealous LOL, because I am! Walmart if you are reading this, we strongly encourage you to not only read this, but read the comments. [Read more…]
