Will Walmart Price Match Online Prices?

The answer is YES, during the Holiday Season.

This is one of the questions that I get the most on I Heart the Mart. There are actually two different different ways to do this and one will be considerably easier than the other.

Walmart has just announced that for the first time it is going to let you choose the “Pay with Cash” in store option for Black friday and Cyber Monday/Cyber Week. This option is already available for everyday items and is a huge help.

This is the exact same thing as Price matching Walmart.com. If you want to pay with a debit or credit card they are also doing free shipping on most items so you might as well order it online.

I think this is a great idea for a few reasons.

There are items you can only get online.
If you are an envelope system, cash using family, this is awesome!
Perfect for people who don’t use credit or debit cards.

Walmart sent out a memo that I do not have a copy of but I have confirmed with 5 different managers. Walmart is Price Matching online prices for their local competitors. What this means is that if you have a Target, Best Buy, Fry’s, etc in your area, Walmart will price match an online deal from those stores for the exact same item. This also includes Walmart.com.

For Price matching Walmart Online deals it is much easier to choose the Pay with cash option and pay for it at the store. If you can pay with a CC or Debit card there is no reason not to order it online with FREE shipping.

Price Matching the competitors should be easy for the most part, I know some people will have issues, but I am confident that most managers will now be on board!

I went in and “bought” something to see what my choices were. Sure enough, the cash option is there! Just choose cash and “site to store” to get free shipping and pick it up a few days later as if you bought it in the store!

Walmart is clearly the best spot for Black Friday Shopping this year. One of the big reasons is the 1 Hour In Stock Guarantee on 3 hot items on Thursday November 22 from 10-11 PM. I talked about this in my Top 15 Black Friday Deals at Walmart, but it is so cool I thought it deserved it’s own post. I am also nicknaming this Brown Thursday! (Thanks Jen, Sawdust Walmart)

If you are in line for one of the three guaranteed in stock items, you WILL get it for that price even if they run out! In the event that they don’t have enough on hand they will make available a guarantee card, I believe you will have to pay for it at that time but you will get the item at that price.

The limit is 1 per CUSTOMER, per item!

Here are the items in the 1-Hour In Stock Guarantee:

1. iPad 2 16GB with Wi-Fi: $399 + $75 Gift Card

Walmart Black Friday Strategy Idea: You should be able to get at least 2 of these items. As soon as you get through the first line go get in line for the second one, as long as it is within the hour you will get both! I see this being very doable!

Walmart Black Friday Deals 2012- Get Black Friday Price Deals RIGHT NOW!!

So, I warned Walmart that this was going to go viral and it has. I have some answers and clarifications that hopefully you will find helpful.

Walmart Layaway is SUPPOSED to be open from 9-9 on Black Friday. They do allow store managers to make adjustments based on store needs. If yours isn’t that sucks and I’m sorry!
Walmart Black Friday “Special Buy” items will have different bar codes for the most part so items like TV’s Computers, Blu Ray Players and Movies will most likely not be able to use the Layaway Black Friday Strategy. It will work on Games and toys because those items should not have the special bar codes.
Competitor Black Friday items that Walmart carries will be able to use this strategy. For example: Target has Model XOXO776 in their Black Friday ad AND walmart carries Model XOXO776, you can put that item on Layaway and Price Match ON Black Friday (if your store is open) provided the sale time has not ENDED. It will have to be deleted to get the lower price.
Do not confuse start times with end times. Walmart will have 3 sales going on at the same time, they may run out of stock but the sale is still running. If your item is in Layaway it is IN stock.
**Walmart Items** The registers are what determines what price the item is sold at, if an item is in Layaway you do not technically buy it until you pay off the layaway item. The registers AUTOMATICALLY give you the sale price if you close it out during a sale period. So do not worry about deleting items from layaway or any other nonsense, if you have it in layaway you have it in stock. The last two bullet points cover the ” Walmart will only PM BF items that start in Event 3″ Event 1 and 2 End Friday at Midnight, the registers don’t know anything except for the times the sales run, if you have the item you will get the lower price. Period.
It is my understanding that Walmart sent a memo that they will Price Match Online Competitor Prices during the holiday season IF that competitor has a Brick and Mortar presence in that area. My store confirmed it, YMMV

I am going Black Friday Shopping this Week- I am sure you are wondering “how? ”

In an I Heart the Mart exclusive interview with the Director of Communications and Community Relations at Walmart, I asked some of the questions that my AWESOME I Heart the Mart readers had about Black Friday. I was floored at the answers so I asked them to write them down. This is EXACT text of the email I received:

For items already on layaway, will Walmart price match those items if they have now gone on sale for Black Friday?

Items that have been put on layaway then are paid off on Black Friday will be sold at Black Friday pricing (i.e. If you place a LG Blu-ray player on layaway today and payoff the purchase on Black Friday, you will pay the $38 Black Friday price).

Can you use coupons for layaway items?

Yes. Walmart is committed to providing our customers with the lowest prices. To back up our price leadership promise, we will match the price of any local competitor’s printed ad for an identical product right at the cash register even on layaway items.More information is available at walmartstores.com/download/4752.pdf.

Are Black Friday deals online again?

Customers can also get a jump start on shopping from the comfort of their homes with a two day online-only event on Walmart.com starting early on Thanksgiving Day and extending through Black Friday. Savings on hundreds of the hottest toys and electronics include:·       Samsung 50″ Class LED 1080p 60Hz HDTV – $698

·       Ematic 7” Tablet Android 4.0 1GHz, 4GB – $49

Is Walmart price-matching Black Friday ads?

We will match the price of any local competitor’s printed ad for an identical product right at the cash register. Walmart’s ad match guarantee does not include online prices. -END OF QUESTIONS-

What Does This Mean?

In a single word? Domination… complete Black Friday Domination. I don’t know a reason you wouldn’t shop Black Friday at Walmart!

This is how you do it:

1. Find the items you want from the Walmart Black Friday Ad 2012 and go put them on Layaway (Walmart Layaway Policy) anytime from NOW until Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

2. You are NOT Allowed to price match the items right now, it will be put on Layaway at the current Walmart Price.

3. Go to Walmart Anytime the Black Friday Price is Available (Thursday or Friday) and Price Match to the Black Friday Ad.

4. You MUST pay in full on Friday to get the Black Friday Price- you must close out your Layaway contract or it will stay at the full purchase price

5. You can do this with other stores Black Friday Ads- Yes… REALLY

6. PRINT THIS POST and take it with you.

If you are Price matching other stores Black friday Ads it must be to the EXACT same item. All dates AND times apply.
