Guest Post: My Wife :)

Jan 9 by Paul Ivanovsky 33 Comments

Hi, this is Tiffany, Paul’s wife, and he asked me to tell you about my experience tonight at Walmart.

A friend and I ran out to do some shopping and I had a catalina that I was going to use at Walmart. When I checked out ( same store that Paul had used them at 3 times in the past 2 days) I was told, “NO”! Not even nicely, very rudely. The cashier would not even scan the coupon, he actually threw it back at me. I asked him if he could call a manager over. He threw a fit and finally went to get one. He kept yelling at me in the mean time, that it was a Randalls coupon and ONLY that. I nicely pointed out it said, “manufacturer coupon” at the top. The manager came over and also refused to take it. I showed her the coupon policy and she said she “didn’t care” and that “corporate was going to have to override her.”

I paid for my purchase and walked to the car. Frustrated, I called Paul to “tattle” on my store!!! I was sooo mad! He told me to stay there and he would be right up. Paul came up with all the emails and even screen shots of the Walmart Facebook page where they explain that they take catalina coupons. He talked to both managers that were there. They both REFUSED to take it.

They actually had no explanation as to why they couldn’t take it. At one point the manager said that ” It might beep” Paul explained that they would have no idea because they refused to even scan it. The manager told us, “give the benefit of the doubt to the cashier” I have no idea what he was trying to say! Then they said that if it beeped they couldn’t take it. It went on and on and on. They made no sense AT ALL and talked in circles the entire time.

Talk about frustrating! So now what? I am calling first thing Monday morning and ask them what they will be doing about this. The more people that call, the better they will start training their cashiers!

This has to be happening to all of us. It is inexcusable that there can’t be more consistency with this store. There is no reason that one person has no trouble and the next person does.

Thank you for allowing me to “vent” in this post 🙂

From Walmart PR on the coupon policy…

Jan 5 by Paul Ivanovsky 37 Comments

Tonight at my Walmart I asked about this ad, I was told that it meant, “if you happen to find a coupon at Randalls or HEB that is a manufacturers coupon, you can use it here.”

What?!

When I got home and was still shaking my head, I was happy to see an email from Walmart PR.

Hi Paul,

I saw your recent post.  There have been some questions about Walmart’s coupon policy and I wanted to offer some additional details.  To clarify, Walmart will continue to accept all valid manufacturer and print-at-home internet coupons with a scannable bar code.  In addition, Walmart will also match the price listed on any valid competitor coupons that include a printed retail price for a specific item (e.g., $2 for a 24 oz. bottle of Clorox).

We apologize for any confusion.

For further details, please see our price match and coupon policies online:
–          Price Match Policy: http://walmartstores.com/7659.aspx
–          Coupon Policy: http://walmartstores.com/7655.aspx

Many thanks,
Ravi Jariwala
Walmart Public Relations

I emailed back because I wanted to make sure that I understood:

Thank you for the response.
I want to be clear. If I have a Target coupon for $1.00 off a bottle of Olay body wash, this coupon will beep when you scan it at your store. But you will be able to override it and still take $1 off the Olay?
Thank you I really appreciate your help.
Paul.

—————————————————————

Paul,

Walmart will honor any valid competitor coupons that include a printed retail price for a specific item. We would not accept the Target coupon unless it had a specific price on it ($6.99), as we do not honor competitor’s dollar or cents off coupons.

Hopefully that helps.
Best,
Ravi

————————————————————–

Ravi,

I think that the confusion is that when you use the word “coupon” people are assuming you are talking about a coupon, with a barcode. If I am understanding you correctly you are actually talking about a sales ad, with sale prices from a competitors store?
Is it possible to call you or another representative?
Thank you so much,
paul

In the mean time, I left a comment on their Facebook page.

“Walmart will also match the price listed on any valid competitor coupons that include a printed retail price for a specific item (e.g., $2 for a 24 oz. bottle of Clorox). ”
I just want to clarify what this means. Are you talking about an actual (for example of a competitor) Target Store coupon, OR a Target store ad. A Target coupon will beep at the register and the cashier will have to override it and take off the amount on the coupon. Using the words “competitors coupon” makes you think this is what you will do. Although I am guessing you mean, “competitors ad”.

This is the response:

Thanks for your interest in our coupon policy.
Walmart will match the price listed on any valid competitor coupons that include a printed retail price for a specific item (e.g., $2 for a 24 oz. bottle of Clorox). This is a competitor coupon.
We do not accept competitor coupons that are $X off of a product (e.g, $1 off a 24 oz bottle of Clorox).
I hope this helps clarify the policy.
Thank you.
Regina

** I have a call scheduled with Ravi tomorrow, I will post as soon as I am done and let you know what he said. I WILL ask about catalina’s also…

Walmart and their confusing coupon policy?!

Jan 3 by Paul Ivanovsky 14 Comments

First, according to Walmarts Facebook page it was a misprint in the add stating that they will take competitors coupons. It meant to say that they would honor competitors sales ad…. that sucks.

But, and this is where Walmart has major problems, is that some of you are saying that your stores have accepted competitors coupons for a while now.

I feel like a broken record, but this is where Walmart messes up. They give the decision to the store managers in most cases, who many times go against what is written in their own coupon policy, confusing customers and making them mad!

Some stores are awesome, they take competitors coupons, they price match, they take internet coupons without a hassle, and they like couponers. Other stores are just the opposite. The only solution that I can see to this is first, on their part, Walmart has to get some consistency. They can’t have a corporate coupon policy that not all stores follow. Second on us, we just have to find out what our store is willing to do, be good couponers and make the phone calls every now and then to get some changes made.

These are the facts for me: Walmart is the cheapest place to purchase things for my family, regardless of how frustrating they might be. Many of us ONLY have a Walmart to shop at and have to deal with it. I have fortunately moved to a place where I have more choices, but I know that many of you don’t have that choice and are stuck with Walmart so you have to make it the best experience possible. As long as my Walmart continues to price match and take coupons, I will keep shopping there.

I HATE hearing your frustrating stories. I have called corporate many times to find out the answer to question for you, only to be told something different every time I call. I will continue to do everything that I can and try to help and find the answers for you, please let me know what I can do to help.

What do you think? What will your store do?

Reader Spotlight Kris F. from FL.

Thanks to Kris F. for sending over this picture of her deals from Walmart. She shops at a store in FL.

Her total before coupons was $24.50, after coupons it was $10 + tax.

Although prices vary across the country from Walmart to Walmart, the prices are still fairly close. When I post prices from my store at $.97, from CA to NY they range from $.88 to $1.09. Usually, within $.10 of my prices.
