How to price match your Thanksgiving Produce at Walmart!

Nov 16 by Paul Ivanovsky 19 Comments

This is what is coming up for today as far as Thanksgiving deals. I will get the top price match items for the grocery stores up today and tomorrow. LATER today, I will have a printable list with all the staple items that you might typically buy for Thanksgiving up that you can print with coupons.

Since there is so much meat and produce involved, I have some suggestions. My prices are going to be different than yours. The printable list will be mostly ( about 90%) all the canned goods, making items, frozen and cold that you cook with, like, soups, marshmallows, French fried onions etc. Because the prices are going to be close to the same.

For your produce and meat do this:

  • Grab all your store ads
  • Make a list of what you need to buy ( celery, sweet potatoes, onions etc.)
  • Lay all the ads out in front of you
  • Compare prices at each store. I just looked at my ads today and all 3 major stores in my area have pretty much the same produce and meat listed. But I can see right away who has the cheapest sweet potatoes/yams (for example)… if you are in Houston, it looks like Randalls.
  • Now, make your price match list.
It might look like this:
This doubles as both my shopping list and my price match list. Now I just go shopping, grab everything I need in one place and get the lowest price. When I get to the checkout, I first put all my non-price match items on first. Those get checked out and bagged. Then when I get to the price match items, I pull my list out so I can remember the prices. As the cashier is about to ring it up I just simply say, ” I would like to price match those sweet potatoes to Randalls for 6lbs for $1, or $.17 a pound.” Then the next item I say, ” I want to price match that to Kroger for $3.99 each” and so on. It is really easy!

If I can get Tiff to film it later today, I will do a video for you, and see if we can’t get permission to film checking out in the store. Just to show you how easy it is. SAVE SOME MONEY on food this Thanksgiving, try price matching!!! Come back and tell me if you tried it for the first time, O.K.?

** How to price match your meat will be tomorrow!

Thanks for the recipe ideas MyLitter!

**Deal Idea**
Buy Hormel Always Tender Pork Loin $3.99-$4.99
Use $1 off Hormel printable HERE
Total: $2.99 – $3.99

The following are my families favorite 3 recipes for pork loin. My kids also love each of these recipes.

This is our favorite!

Pulled Pork Sandwiches
1 Pork Loin
1 Bottle Bar B Que Sauce ( I use Sweet Baby Rays)
Little bit of liquid smoke
Rolls

Brown all sides of the roast in some oil in a large pan. Transfer to a crock pot and add about a cup or two of water. Salt and pepper to taste. Cook on high for 4-6 hours until you can pull it apart without effort with a fork. Drain off almost all the liquid, leave about 1 cup add about 1t. liquid smoke to it. Add an entire bottle of B-B-Q sauce, we love Sweet Baby Ray’s the best. Stir it into the meat, turn down to low on crock pot and let cook fro another hour or until you are ready to eat. Serve on hard rolls or your favorite kind!

Chili VerdeThis is exactly how my mom gave it to me. I have never used a 3-5 lb pork, mine are usually between 1-3 pds so I only use 1 onion and 1-2 cans of green chili’s. I use about 2 tsp of garlic though and I usually skip the searing and make it in the crockpot. About 6 hours on high in a crockpot, 2 1/2-3 hours in a roasting pan, and 1 hour in a pressure cooker.3-5 lb boneless pork roast
1-3 yellow onions (chopped)
4 cans Ortega chopped green chili’s
olive oil
1/4 tsp minced or chopped garlic
(more if you like garlic)
salt and pepper to taste
2 Tbs flour
3/4 cup waterHeat oil in roasting pan and sear meat. Pour 1/2 cup water in bottom of roasting pan. Place in roast, chopped onions, garlic, salt and pepper. Cover pan and bake at 350 degrees 2 hours or until internal temp. reaches 155 (or meat shreds easily with a fork). Let meat set 1/2 hour and then shred. Set aside.
Take 2 Tbs flour and mix with 1/4 cup water thoroughly (no lumps). Add water to drippings and cook over med heat to make gravy. If desired add more water, flour and (if needed) chicken bouillon for more gravy. Salt to taste. Add green chile’s and shredded meat. Serve over rice.
My kids like it with soy sauce and rice. The next day we wrap it in burritos with cheese and sour cream. The burritos are excellent when fried in a pan on both sides, more sauce dumped on top and coated in cheese. (not healthy though). Enjoy!

Homemade Chicken Pot Pie Recipe – $11.57 at Walmart for ingredients!

Oct 10 by Paul Ivanovsky 5 Comments

This is a guest post from my wife over at MyLitter. Thanks honey, sounds good to me! She just remodeled her site last night so take a quick look!

What are you having for dinner tonight? It is a little cooler here and so I want to stick something in the oven and have the house smell good! Since there are some good coupons out I am going to make Homemade Chicken Pot Pie! I used zip 77477.

The total cost at my Walmart for the ingredients was $11.57. That is under $2 a serving as this serves 6 for a pie. You can double it and put it into a 9×13 pan.

There are a few coupons that you will need:

Easy Homemade Chicken Pot Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 (9 inch) pie crusts $2.49 ( after $.50/2 coupon)
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup $.60 ( after $.40/3 coupon)
  • 1 (8 ounce) tub or package cream cheese $1.48 (after $1/1 coupon)
  • 1/2 (16 ounce) package frozen mixed vegetables, thawed $2.00
  • 3 cups cooked, diced chicken meat $5 ( I use a rotisserie chicken and pull the meat off)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl combine soup and softened cream cheese. Mix until thoroughly blended. Stir in vegetables and chicken.
  3. Pour chicken mixture into pastry-lined pie pan. Cover with top crust. Seal and cut steam vents in top. Cover edges of crust with aluminum foil to prevent overbrowning.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Remove foil halfway through baking to allow edges of crust to brown. Check often late in cooking time to ensure crust is not burning.

** We also make this in a 9×13 casserole dish. Another variation is to add biscuits to the top instead of a pie crust.
