Walmart Back to School Cyber Monday Event

I just got off the a conference call with Walmart and I’m so excited to share with you some great things coming very soon for Back to School and Back to College. Back to school is one of the biggest times the year for Walmart. This year they’re making it even better all of us by having a huge cyber Monday back-to-school event. There will be over 400 items on the rollback or special prices that day that will help you save on all your back-to-school needs. They are even including hundreds of household items so basically it’s just one big sale.

There are three big things that I took out of the conference call that I want to tell you about

1. Back to School Cyber Monday Sale August 4th.

2. Savings Catcher is rolling out nationwide the same day August 4th

3. Walmart will be participating in Tax Free Weekends this year ONLINE on Walmart.com and at your local stores.

The Savings Catcher App is just that, it “catches” savings that you might have missed. If you are price matching items and forgot one, or just didn’t realized an item was cheaper at another store, this automated app will find that savings and Walmart will issue you a egift card for the difference. If that wasn’t enough excitement, Saving Catcher is expanding and will have 100,000 Grocery and General Merchandise items included in this program. How convenient is that!

So excited to see this is happening! Now you can redeem Savingstar Digital Rebates with your Walmart, Walgreens, Target, Dollar General, Kmart, Family Dollar and other purchases!

What Savingstar offers:

One and done rebates: One time offers on single or multiple items – if it’s $1.00 back when you buy 2, both items must be purchased in a single transaction
One or many rebates: One time offers that you can buy over time and across multiple stores – these are the $5 off $15 or $20 offers on a category (ie: any Snyder’s Brand items)
Freebie Friday: Yup! currently EVERY weekend there is a freebie offer that you have 3 days to purchase and redeem. We’ve seen everything from yogurt to household cleaners.
Healthy offer of the week: 20% back, with no minimum or maximum, on one produce item every week. We’ve seen cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, oranges, and more.

How it works at the new stores:

You sign up with Savingstar
You download the app at Savingstar and select the offers you think you can use
You shop at a store that does not have a shopper card (ie: Walmart, Walgreens, Target, Dollar General, etc)

2014 Edition of Tax FREE Weekend!

Tax free weekend 2014 is coming up for most of us, starting August 8th if you are in Texas! It is hard to get excited about a sale where you are saving 8.25% BUT the sales that they run on top of that are killer!

The tax free weekend for general merchandise purchased in Texas is scheduled for August 8 -10th, 2014 and applies to the following items:

Clothing and footwear under $100
School supplies under $100
Backpacks under $100 for elementary and secondary students
Includes layaway items

Keep in mind, too, that not all general merchandise items are included in the sales tax holiday. For example, cowboy boots and climbing boots are tax-free, but ski boots are still taxed during Texas’ tax free weekend. In fact, many sporting goods are not included in the sales tax holiday at all in Texas, like cleats, football pads, and protective helmets, so make sure that you read Texas’ Sales Tax Holiday web page before heading out to the mall.

Taxed: Taxable items tend to be the more specialized, less necessary items of clothing such as jewelry, hair accessories, purses, football pants and golf gloves. Regular shoes (sandals, slippers, sneakers) are exempt, but cleated shoes, fishing boots and ballet slippers are not.
