I am stealing this from my wife’s site, because it is a GREAT Walmart trip form one of her readers! But I wanted to show you a good example of the good deals that you can get there, especially with the new coupon policy.
This is Hope’s deal that she got this week: “I combined your Walmart deals to get all of this for $4.56!!!! I never would have thought to use the frigo cheese coupons on the singles, that saved me almost 6 bucks on the rest of the stuff…anyway I price matched the purex to the cvs ad and the tuna to krogers ad. And used my $3 off purex coupons on the large packs and the $1 off the travel size. Used 7 $1.50 off 3 and 6 $.75 off 2 on the tunas. 7 $1 off and 6 $.50 off on the cheeses. And the $1 off on the garlic. This was my first attempt to price match, I love it!!!
By buying a few things that she got overage on, she was able to apply it to the rest of her purchase. This is what I call “creating your own sale/coupon”. I do this when I don’t have a coupon for things like milk and meat.

My wife always talks about creating your own coupon/sale for items you don’t have coupons for, she does this with overage, ECB’s and RR.

Good for her! But I do have a question on the tuna…The coupon mentioned it was only good on the pouches and the gold cans (aka the more expensive:) ones. I guess I wasn’t brave enough to try it on the least expensive blue cans, I purchased the pouches, but did the register beep or did the coupon just go thru on the blue cans??
If the coupons were only good on the pouches and the gold cans she really should not have used them …that was wrong whether they beepede or not. Ya know Walmart just gave us a great new coupon policy and I think we should be appreciative and not take advantage of it the wrong way. I’m sure the manufacturer’s that were nice enough to put out the coupons in the first place would appreciate it if we used them the way they were intended:)

I have a question regarding price matching the Purex. Did she get the $3.99 sale price or do they price match what the Purex will be after getting the ECB to $2.99?

Thank you so much Paul for your quick response. I made a great trip to Walmart afterwards but they wouldn’t take the cheese stick coupons. They said they were not verified? The manager said it needed to have the words VRT on the side like the other printed coupons because then they would not get money back for them if they didn’t have them. I don’t understand the difference. Anyone know what’s going on?
Looks like she used the right can for the coupon. But Kroger 2/$1 was on the .5 oz cheap can.
Cool! I got my Wednesday ads all circled and ready to go for my next shopping trip. I’m nervous about getting the cashier angry with me. Hoping I get a patient one. 🙂
I went to 3 walmarts in my area and ALL of them gave me a hard time. prior to checking out, I handed them the item and the coupon and told them that there was going to be overage. They said oh… ‘you can’t do that. even if I tried, the computer wouldn’t let me.” I’m like ” yes, you can. here’s the coupon policy.”
After 4 or 5 mins of tell the CSR, a CSM finally came over and said, “NO. WE can NOT do that. It’s over the item value.” I said, “yes, I know that. But your policy says that I can.”
OMG… I felt so bad for the people in line behind me, and my children. After 20 or 30 mins of standing there looking like an idiot….
A CSM says…”its the wrong size. it doesn’t match the picture. ” so I say, “how do you know that? where does it say what size?”
she gives out a loud sigh and says “we will do it just THIS ONE TIME.”

I am so sorry that you had so much trouble. If you have a chance today please call Walmart corporate and let them know what happened. People this past week have had really good luck with doing that. They have been getting phone calls back form the managers at the store with an apology. If nothing else you can have your store manager educated so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Thanks Paul, I did email corporate and called the manager back. I got an apology. I guess its just my bad luck. I tried to use another coupon at another store in my area and the same old thing. Emailed corporate again. Thanks for all you do on this site…. I love it.
If you have time, call the corporate number with the manager-it feels good when you’re right and they’re the ones standing there like a ding dong.
My Walmart won’t price-match anything in a CVS ad that says: “With card” 🙁 Which, basically excludes CVS ads for price matching all together.

They should it is in their policy. Call corporate and ask them to educate your store manager, then give you a call back when they do.
This is right from their policy: We do honor “Preferred Shopping Card” advertised prices. Must be like items, be advertised and require a competitor’s shopping card, for the discount to apply.
Oh! Cool, thanks Paul, last time I went it was just as they had changed their policy, so that may have had something to do with it. I shall bring their policy with me next time. 🙂
Well, just got back from my Walmart trip today, and the cashier refused to even TRY to scan the $1 off Frigo coupon. 🙁 I tried at the self check out, but it was having issues too. At my store the cheese was $0.33 as well, which would have been awesome overage. I’m kind of bummed. But I shall soldier on!

so after reading this blog I thought I would try walmart again… every time I have gone and used coupons they are VERY rude. so I went in with new cp printed out. got to the check out took a deep breath and started to check out. everything went smoothly the casheir stopped in the middle of scaning Q and said I have never had this happen you have maxed out the Q, I have to get a csm to approve. saved $70.00 with Q, paid 6.06 with tax. so i think i might try wally again. Thank You!
