THIS IS ONLY FOR THE WALMART STORES PARTICIPATING IN THE PILOT PROGRAM- NOT ALL STORES
If your store is doubling or tripling this is the sign that you can find at your store. What it says is that for a limited time they will match any “local competitors coupon policy”.
The reason that they would do this, is if there is any direct competition with another store or new store opening. They are matching their coupon policy to keep you coming to Walmart. If you have a new store opening in your area, I don’t think it would hurt to ask your Walmart manager if they would consider matching the new stores policy. I would not expect them to double or triple if the other stores in your area don’t.
Which means we’re getting nowhere in the Houston market. Randall’s does still double/triple, but only the first coupon of the same type. Better than nothing I guess.
So, since the Weis across the street from my Walmart doubles up to 99 cents, if I see this sign at my Walmart, that means I can ask them to double up to 99 cents, since Weis does?
Do they define local competitor as the same stores that you can price match with? I have a Bloom nearby that doubles up to $1.99 on the first of every month, would they match that?
the last 2 times I have went to my local Walmart they have given me a headache regarding my coupons especially when I purchase a trial size and the coupons does not exclude trial size.
Dang! No stores in my area double coupons 🙁
Dawn, don’t feel bad. My WM has tons of coupon haters too. They give me the hardest time trying to use anything. They’re of the type, “if it doesn’t match the picture on the coupon, you’re trying to steal our money”. Ridiculous. I used to go to the Sawdust WM b/c I lived right there (same one Paul goes to) and they were awesome. Now, I’m just about 15 min. farther south and all 3 of the WMs by me suck! If gas wasn’t so expensive, it would almost be worth the drive for me to save up all of my Qs and just drive back to my old one. So, you’re not the only one that doesn’t have a coupon friendly WM nearby!
Is this still specific to the test markets?
yes
Have they given any indication if/when they will roll this out nationwide?
Hmm interesting! My ONLY “competitor” store to walmart does double coupons on certain days of the week. They will double coupons to a$1. Nothing over $2. It is a 12 week program they do a couple of times a year, but might be worth it to check!
I know there is several in WV, friends that live there and have talked to management said its a trial run, may branch out later? I hope they do! I live just min way from the WV border in Southeastern Ohio, small area so we have no place that double, well 1 small grocery chain, but too expensive even with double coupons!
I asked a “Manager Trainee” today abou the possibility that our Walmart in NH might start doubling coupons. He was smug when he said, “we’ll match coupons but not coupon policies.” I was just curious to see, if the word had spread that this was happening down south. I hope this happens to us up here, I have a Walmart right down the road and I usually go about 25 minutes away to a story that doubles. Thanks for all the good info, Paul. 🙂 Have a fun couponing this week folks.
Not all walmarts are doubling. However, our walmart in pooler, ga says they double…but clearly from my recent they do not. Also – as far as taking competitor coupons…the coupon has to have a dollar amount and HAS to say “manufacturer coupon” on it…which means…you can take competitors that have retail on them (which seem that most do). And when i say dollar amount – i mean it would say something like “buy this item for $2” not “get $2 off this item”. That’s the kicker i’ve been running into.
