When you double coupons at Walmart – do they double the entire amount, or do they double a 75¢ coupon only to $1?

When I read “doubling up to $1”, I thought Great! $1 becomes $2 off! Not what I understood from your petition page. So even if the coupon is .75 cents, it only goes to $1, not $1.50?

I’m very much in support of a double coupon day every week at Wal-Mart. But I guess I was just hoping for something a tad better like other stores do 🙁

I’ve been mislead by that same verbiage before. What they should say is they will double the value of a coupon so that the total is not exceeding one dollar. I read the “doubling up to $1” thing all the time and I’ve heard it on couponing shows. Yes, it’s midleading. Now, if only stores in my area doubled coupons, I’d be in heaven!

I live in Southern West Virginia and our area has 13 stores that are doubling coupons beginning last Sunday. We asked we got to the store what the doubling process was. They told us just like Kroger. Double any coupon with a face value of .50 or less to $1.00.
This is the biggest mess I have ever seen. The registers are not programmed to double and the cashiers have been told to scan the item to get the price. Take the price use a calculator to subtract the cost of the coupon from the adjusted item price. When they have the price they delete the item from the system and then re-scan it at the adjusted price and then they scan the coupon. You have to give the coupon to the cashier for each item when they scan the item. I was in the check out for nearly an hour.
But the GREAT thing is they a doubling every coupon no matter the face value. I bought a box of Bayer Advanced for $3.47 with a $2. coupon and they doubled it and gave me .49 back. (I did this item separate because I wanted the receipt for a MIR) I am sorting coupons now for a late night return trip to hopefully speed up the check out.

I also live in WV, Charleston to be exact & our So Chas WalMart doubles the face value up to .99, so my .75 coupons were worth 1.50. We have to go thru that same process, but it’s worth it to me!

live in Cross Lanes and the store in Nitro Marketplace is doubling up to 99 cents. ie a $.55 coupon dobes to $.99, a $.75 coupon dobles to $.99 etc.. It also took me about an hour to check out but it was worth it to me.

That is actually incorrect. There are very few stores that double here, but a few do. Kmart does it for one week 1-2 times a year. Also Hitchcock’s will double coupons under $o.50.

There are only 9 Hitchcock’s in the whole state of Florida and all in the same area as i see on their site. So this must be a familiar owned business in my guess. But No we don’t have any MAJOR stores here in Florida that double. And your lucky if you even find a K mart with groceries.

I’d love for them to double!! I know other walmarts already do so I’d love for one of the walmarts in my area to do so!! Even if it is only doubling one day a week that will help us to stock up and benefit from Walmarts already great prices!! I choose Kroger for a lot of items because tho Walmart’s price tag may be less with Kroger’s doubling the coupon it ends up being cheaper especially if Kroger is running a sale. Fortunately our two stores are a stones throw apart so splitting my list is no prob. ;). But would definitely use Walmart more if they doubled! Or a shopping rewards card would be wonderful too!!

I live in Iowa where no store doubles. I would be super pumped if they would double company wide so we could all get this great deal! I think doubling to a 1.00 would be awesome. For people that live in areas that already have stores that double its probably not a great deal. BUT I WOULD LOVE IT! I do most of my shopping at walmart now due to the price matching and would shop there even more with doublers! GO WALMART!

I don’t understand how a coupon going from 75 cents to $1 is considered doubling. Shaw’s doubles coupons up to .99 every day- meaning any coupon up to .99 gets doubled. (so if it is .75 it will double to $1.50). I would love it if Walmart doubled coupons if they actually double the amount.

Also – It went straight to a donation page and did not say my name was added to the petition. How do I know if this was done?

it said it above the donation page. It ws recorded. In most of the country stores don’t double over a $.50 coupon. there are a few areas that do but Walmart will implement a policy that makes sense for all the stores.

Florida has almost no where that does, and none in Orlando. While I do agree that it’s not really doubling the coupon so much as adjusting, it would open the doorway for other stores in nondoubling zones to atleast to start following suit

I think it would be wonderful if Wal-Mart doubled, but my gut says it won’t ever happen. In fact, my Wal-Mart removes items from their shelves when they are on sale at the grocery store across the street so they don’t have to ad match. They are especially bad about this with the produce.

Now if WalMart implemented something so awesome….even once a week or one week out of each month, I’d be thrilled. I already spend way more money at WM than I need to…..coupons help, but double coupons would ROCK!

I worry that those of us in Utah that have doubling currently will lose it because they wont want to make it national but they will have to keep things “fair” if a petition is started. It would be really upsetting if this ruined things!

Really… you think Walmart’s first concern is to be fair? if they didn’t want to double, they would have not ever done it anywhere. It’s not done in Utah because the state is special(and I do Love Utah more BYU thatn Utah), it is done as a a direct result of competition with other stores that double.

Yeah but we have so many who coupon out here as well so the demand to step it up a level is greater. If there was as much of competition dont you think they would have started it in your area? If they didnt feel a threat from local companies then they wont feel pressured to do it just because of a petition. That is all I am thinking.

THEY DONT WANNA DEAL W. IT SO THEY DONT. IF THE CASHIERS ON THE RAG U AINT USING ANY COUPONS THAT DAY! IF SHES IN A HAPPY MOOD U MIGHT GET LUCKY & BE ABLE TO USE THEM. THE WALMART IN BUCKEYE, AZ GIVES ALL WALMARTS A BAD NAME. INCONSISTANT, CHANGE RULES ALL THE TIME. 1 DAY THEY’LL TAKE COUPON, NEXT DAY THEY WONT. 1 DAY THEY’LL MATCH YOUR AD, NEXT DAY THEY WONT. THEY WONT AD MATCH AFTER WALGREENS RR PRICE OR THE AFTER EB CVS PRICE EITHER. IVE HEARD FROM OTHERS THEIR POLICY STATES THEY HAVE TO. I TOLD THIS TO THE MGR & SHE SAID NO THEY DO NOT & WIL NOT PRICE MATCH WALGREENS AND CVS PRICES. I HAVE A WALMART ACROSS THE STREET FROM MY HOUSE WHICH IS CONVENIENT BUT I DRIVE OT THE NEXT TOWN TO SHOP CUZ WALMART GIVES ME BAD SERVICE EVERY SINGLE TIME!!

Normally I would delete a rant like this but you have some common concerns so I will try to address them, there are a few things regarding CVS and Walgreens I will talk about as well.I’m gonna try to take it line by line.
      1. It seems you are really addressing your particular Walmart in Buckeye, AZ. Have you called Corporate, spoken with the actual manager and not a CSM. If you have, get the number for the Area Manager and speak with him. I am not saying that you wouldn’t be(you did yell at me in the whole comment), but BE NICE!
      2. Before you check out ask the CSM who is your most coupon knowleable and friendly cashier and wait in his/her line. If she happens to not be as advertised and gets ugly and refuses to follow the policy or accept coupons request the store manager right away and simply ask him if his store follows the Walmart Corporate guidelines regarding the Coupon and Price Matching Policies. Have yours in hand.
      3. KNOW YOUR POLICY- Walmart Policy DOES NOT MATCH AFTER RR OR ECB Pricing. Hearing from others does not cut it, know it for yourself. I have the policy on my site under FAQ and Price Matching. Some managers match the after Register Rewards/ECB as a matter of courtesy, but are in no way obligated by policy to do so.

I hope this helps and that you have better trips to Walmart in the future.

Sorry I didnt mean to yell. Laptop already had caps on and I admit I was too lazy to hit the button. 1) Yes I have contacted corporate several times. All they do is forward my message/email/contact info to the manager of the store, who I have talked to on the phone & in person MANY times. Then she calls me & laughs on the phone, yada yada in person like we are BFFs & nothings wrong. The problem still exists. I actually talked to her today. All I ask is that ALL cashiers are consistant and on the same page. I shouldnt have to go in 1 day, use a completely legimate coupon or ad match w/ no problem & then the next day they wont accept. I forgot to ad too I had a coupon for $3 off Aussie when you buy the treatment or something like that (purplish coupon). It would not scan. It was not expired, nothing wrong w/ it. She kept trying to scan it & it would beep. Instead of trying to manually enter it she handed it back to me & refused it. I asked her to manually enter and she asked the cashier in next lane & the cashier told her we cant accept it if it wont scan. Those 2 products got sent back cuz I refused to pay full price for them. Its stuff like that. They make NO effort to make the customer happy. NO smile, no small talk (I always try to talk to them, hows your day, oh its busy today, etc to be friendly), no apology, nothing. Its like Im an inconvenience to them when I have coupons or ad match.
    2) I will print a copy of the policy & carry it in my binder.
    3) I thought so too.. that they DO NOT price match after CVS EB price or Walgreens after RR price & this has caused a couple of arguments in we use coupons room because a couple of ppl claim that it IS their policy and it IS in their policy that they are to do so. They also show pics regularly of their savings after RR prices & when ppl ask how did u get this free or so cheap they say walmart PM it & when ppl say mine doesnt.. they both say that is it their policy to do so. Now it seems everyone is believing it is, including ME and then when my store continues to refuse it then I get upset. So I was right the whole time…
Thank you for clarifying this! I do hope it gets better for me @ Walmart. Its very convenient right across the street whereas driving to the next town to the other walmart who never gives me issues. Thanks again!!

Definitely a courtesy to honor ‘after RR or ECB’ price and those who are able to enjoy that perk are lucky. After all, ECB’s and RR’s are meant to be used on a FUTURE purchase, and are not technically lowering the price of the item they are generated by.

This is just me and what I would do BUT if the Walmart was right across the road from me and I had such a passion for hoping they would get it right one day, as you do seem to have, again this is just me, but I would ask the manager for some time and have a conversation about what you and THEY could do to help it be a more pleasant, enjoyable, profitable (for them), experience.
Maybe have written down your bullet points to get it started so they could get something concrete to refer too and maybe potentially fix. I know corporate is very on board with helping the consumer so starting with the CSM might help. IF after that, you get nowhere, then I would call corporate with what you attempted and what the result was. Likewise tho, if the result is positive for you, I would also call corporate and let them know how they are doing as well.

If they ever doubles coupons up to dollar, this will make my Hoover, Alabama Walmart Supercenter’s cashiers go nastier and unfriendlier! But hooray, it that would happen! These cashiers at my 35244 zipcode Walmart seems to have a problem with shoppers using coupons. I hope Walmart would spend time and effort trainning their staffs on how to be courteous and pleasant to customers, I would definitely go there often.

It would be awesome for WM to start doubling. My concern, like many others, is WM being able to keep everything in stock and not removing items when a high value coupon comes out. I understand keeping everything in stock is part on the manufacture as well as that store.
I currently live in a town where there are couponers everywhere and getting ready to move into a more populated area. My concern comes back to having enough stock. I haven’t shopped at WM for awhile because its always crowded, they are a bit more expensive (sometimes) and sometimes get heck for price matching or using coupons.
It would be nice for WM to train their employees on the coupon policy a bit more than they do.

Walmart doesn’t (as a general rule) remove stock from shelves because of a high value coupon or not wanting to ad match. Most Walmarts really want the business (I agree you can’t always tell this from the cashier’s attitudes in some stores) and the reason the shelves are empty is because customers purchase the items and it takes days to get new stock back in from the warehouse. They do not order extra because another store has it on sale or a high dollar coupon is in the paper that week so they run out because demand is higher than normal and all orders are based on previous sales, which may not have been as high….although most stores will place an order for you if you want more and ask them to do it. The system is set up so that if an item is out on a shelf and it is in the back, it flags it to be pulled and stocked. There are certain rules and scorecards each store follows, and yes, some do a better job than others, but they CANNOT leave an out on the shelf if they have the product.
I do agree that the cashiers need to be better trained on coupon policy…very few actually come to the casheir meetings if they are not already scheduled (at least in the store I work in now and the one I did before). Trust me, the information is in the store’s system and is easy to find and it is VERY customer friendly. The store I am in does a fantastic job with ad matching and coupons. I would love to see them double and become competitive with other stores!

Hello all. I would love for Wal- Mart to double coupons. I have given Wal-Mart majority of my business since Kroger stopped doubling and tripling in my area(Houston). With Wal-Mart’s new coupon policy and price match, it makes it so much easier to save money and only have to shop at 1 store. I hope they do begin doubling coupons.

It would be nice to have Wal-Mart double. But I also see that the cashiers are nasty to those who use coupons. I know that some of the reason is that they have to sign all those coupons they receive in a day. At least the last cashier made it quite clear they she was going to have writers cramp after we left signing all the coupons we used. Which I can under stand how she felt, but that is what coupons are for to be used right?

I have some tips for some people who have a hard time at Wal-Mart, if it will help anyone. Wal-Mart is a busy store so I suggest shopping late at night or early in the morning. This way you will have room to move around and you will be there at a time when the store is stocked well. I have noticed and asked and I found out that when the 10 o’clock shift comes on they begin to stock the shelves. So I usually go around 11 at night or 6 in the morning.
Also, I tend to pick out a young male cashier that seems to be in a good mood. The older women are suspicious and the young women usually are jealous; this may not always be the case but it has been for me. When I go to the young men they usually do not ask for the ad even though I do bring it with me just in case and for my own reference.

Doubling coupons would be great if Walmart would do it but quite a few people shop for groceries on Friday or Saturday due to them getting paid then. I know it would help bring in more business on the other days but how about the ones that can’t shop during the week due to when they get paid or due to work?

the idea is that we want something from them and they want more business on the slower days. Ideally it would start at a day and move to everyday.

My walmart is in a small town in Missouri. We don’t have very many options for price matching and such. If they would double up to $1.00 it would be great for me. But i worry about the small grocery store in my town. They have the best meat and always a better price. Not that I’m against double coupons at Walmart, I’m just trying to think about the long term effect it might have on small town grocery stores. I quess with every good thing there is a price to pay in some way or another.

As for bad cashiers, I almost never go to Walmart Monday though Friday mornings. They have only 4 to 5 cashiers and they are all the same older women who will use your coupons and do your price matches, but have no beef about giving you hard time about. Most of them have all made rude comments to me. One asked me how many kids I have, I tell her thinking she is just being nice, Then she asked if I work full time, again I tell her thinking the same thing. Then she says, “You must neglect your kids using so much time on these coupons.” I just kept my head and tried to be funny and said” Well they don’t complain about it too much when they get free candybars.” I really just wanted to tell her to mind her own business and do your job, which is to make me as happy as you possibly can, because afterall I am shopping in your store. But I didn’t. So long story short, when I do shop at Walmart, I go late night and I do surf for a cashier who is going to treat me with a bit of curtesy because I am in their lane.

OT, but to reply to some of the FL not doubling comments. I do have a Hitchcock’s where I live in N FL, so I’m lucky IF you can afford to shop there in the first place. Also Harvey’s around here doubles (up to $1.00, but that doesn’t mean they will turn $.75 coupon into a $1.00, just a true double, so $.50 coupons).

I would just love it if Walmart started doubling coupons in MO. There are just a few places around me that do some sort of double coupons but if Walmart started doing it…omg it would save me on gas lol. There is a store called Pamida and it is the only store that i have seen that actually doubles coupons up to $1 and makes them worth $2 AND they price match like Walmart does. Its amazing they run the deal about every other month and then it only last 3 days but it takes me about 45 mins to get there. The worst part of it is they dont carry as many options as Walmart, but its still worth it. OH i am soo excited that this is even a possibility! I really do heart the mart!! <3

Sigh…. I would love it if WM doubled. But there is already stock issues at the stores I shop at, so if they doubled, anything that would be free (or better than free) is going to be sooooo hard to find.

I know a few of you posted about shopping late at night – well, I already do that and I love that the aisles are empty, but the problem is that there is only ONE register open and it seems EVERY single time, I end up holding up the line because of coupon issues. Any coupon that is for more than the item askes them “Valid price?” and some of them can get in the rhythm of scanning and then hitting yes or enter or whatever key necessary but so many times they forgot to hit the button so the scanner beeps when they are trying to scan the next coupon or the register requiring them to hit the buttom causes them to stop and look the coupon and the items over and over like you are doing something wrong…..

A perfect WM world would be unlimited stock on the shelves, Price Matching like it is portrayed on the commercials (and my stores REQUIRE the ad, regardless of what the policy says, otherwise they accuse you of making up prices), coupons that went thru beeplessly, plenty of check lanes open, and those wished for DOUBLE coupons. I’m not asking for much, am I???

I’m spoiled in Charlotte, NC with many stores doubling up to $.99 everyday and some, like Harris Teeter, having Super Doubles (doubling up to $1.98 that whole week) or Triples (tripling up to $.99 coupons) events. I would go to WM if they doubled if it made sense but I’d save my coupons higher than $.50 for the other stores if they had better deals. Just my $.02! 😀

I live in WV where 13 stores are in a test group for doubling coupons, everyday..true doubling… 75 would double to 1.50. @ this time they still price match competitors, accepts competitors coupons, stacks q’s, of course, manu. q’s, and even accepts catalina’s from other stores (if it is a monetary amount). We are living a dream, for right now!

I live in Utah where they started the pilot program for doubling coupons. It has been awesome! And yes, it is also a fairly long checkout process. It’s not always convenient with a child in tow. But for me, it’s worth it. And the longer your store does this, the quicker they’ll get.
If you are lucky enough to get this in your area, PLEASE be kind and patient with your cashier and warn fellow shoppers who get in line behind you. I know its not easy for the cashier so I always thank them for their patience. If you are rude or if it becomes a horrible experience for other shoppers, they may not continue it or take it to other stores.

so i live in ohio but i can travel across the bridge to a west virginia walmart where the sign outside the door says for a limited time beginning july 30 this store is 1 of the 13 stores in wv participating in a study to match competitors coupon policies. they double up to .99 meaning .99 becomes 1.98$$ 75 BECOMES 1.50 this is awesome and you dont even have to mention it at the register they automatically do it!!! none of the cashiers or managers know how long this will last but hopefully FOREVER!!! the cashiers have to manually price override each product with the coupons subtracted until computers are programmed. (ex. item 2.00 price override for 50 off coupon making item rung up at 1.50…. at the end of transaction they will scan actual coupon making it double. 1.00!!!) ….. my local walmart is walmart of mason west virgina!….this iS AWESOME!!!!

@Cass, when a store doubles coupons, it is still 1 coupon per listed item (unless we’re talking about Target where you can use a Target only coupon plus a manuf coupon). That coupon will double up to whatever value the store states. i.e. my grocery store will double any coupon up to 0.99. Anything 1.00 or over will stay at the stated value on the coupon. Anything 0.99 or lower will be worth twice the face value (0.75=1.50 and 0.99=1.98 for example). HTH
