** First, I want to say that I DO NOT work for Walmart, never have, nor does anyone in my family that I know of. Second, I am not affiliated with them in any way, they DO NOT pay me for any opinion. There, just had to get that out of the way.
Now, there are always going to be times that you do not have a coupon for items that you need. Tortilla chips for me this weekend is a NEED. I am buying them whether or not I have a coupon. There are some things that I don’t buy generic or store brand, they juts never seem to taste as good. Like, cereal, I just don’t like store brand cereal. The store brands have gotten much better though and many of them are coming from the same manufacturer just packaged different.
We did a taste test yesterday in my house. I didn’t have a coupon for chips and the store brand was more than $1.50 less then the name brand. I bought both and dumped them in a bowl and didn’t say anything, no one noticed any difference. Then I asked if someone could tell me which was the store brand and which was name brand. No one could tell me!
Consider store brands to save you some money!
Paul – you are so right! Probably nine times out ten, you can’t really tell it’s a store brand. I’ve noticed that they are adding many more Great Value items. One item that I think is a SUPER value in the Great Value Chocolate Sauce with Splenda – $1.44 – regular price. The major brand with Splenda price is around 2.98 – 3.50. (I live in the Northeast!) My elderly mother has to have the sugar free and enjoys chocolate sauce on sliced fruit, ice cream, etc… (I don’t care for it myself, but she loves it!)
Great Value Ravioli is just as good as Chef Boyardee. I wouldnt recommend Kroger brand though…it tastes like chili. We actually enjoy the store brand cereals (or malt o meal brand) and I have always bought store brand sodas
We have found that sometimes, something that is a generic brand, if you put a name brand next to it, it will have the same address as the store brand. Just packaged differently.
I buy the Great Value tortilla chips all the time. They are awesome! The nacho cheese chips taste better than Doritos in my opinion too! Such a good deal for really good tasting stuff when it comes to those chips!
I like the Equate body wash. Its way cheaper than the name brand even when there is coupon. I also us Walmart brand fish oil, mouthwash, vitamins, and toothbrushes. No stores double coupons in central Florida where I live. Publix is picky now with the coupons they take, so I go to Walmart with the store flyer. A big mistake on Publix part, and a brilliant idea for Walmart to do store matches.
My boyfriend and his father both work for frito-lay so those are the only brand of chips that come through my door! 😀
now if they could go back to the old packaging of great value products, that would be better. I so hate the government commodities look 🙁
Also, just fyi that most items in the frozen vegetable section are sectioned out (one goes into ‘name brand’ packaging and the other into ‘store brand’ packaging) at the packaging plant.
Also, even though it isn’t store brand, Lancome & L’Oreal are owned by the same company and the same thing happens there–a good friend that works for Lancome confirmed it. Would much rather pay L’Oreal prices vs. Lancome prices!!
